Polyethylene terephthalate, is commonly shortened to PET or PETE and is a form of polyester, like the clothing fabric. The majority of the world’s PET production is for synthetic fibres with bottle production accounting for around a third of global demand.

Polyethylene terephthalate is a thermoplastic, a type of polyester resin and is used in synthetic fibers, plastic beverage containers, plastic jugs, food and liquid containers; can be injection molded to shape; and in industry often combined with fiberglass.
